The olive oil revolution: the end of old assumptions

In France, our view of olive oil is distorted by preconceptions and by a completely outdated idea of the product and of the main players in the sector. Although it is a Mediterranean country, France is above all a nation of butter, margarine and sunflower oil consumers, where olive oil carries relatively little weight, though its share is growing. French consumers actually know very little about this pillar of the Mediterranean diet.
Drawing on historical and economic data and analysis, visits to olive mills, interviews and photos taken in the field, this website tries to shed light on this little-known sector, to reveal it to readers and to show how it has changed compared with the distorted, somewhat old-fashioned picture most people have of it.
